Spark/The Canadian CED NetworkWinnipeg, Canada

The Canadian CED Network is a member-led national network that promotes community economic development as an alternative development model for building fairer, stronger and more sustainable communities. Our work includes capacity building, policy work, research, information brokering and network building.

Spark is a capacity-building and pro-bono volunteer brokering resource for the community economic development (CED) and community development sector in the city of Winnipeg, Canada. We connect volunteers with valuable professional skills (architecture, accounting and organizational development, to name a few) to worthwhile community based organizations and projects. Our clients range from emerging community based groups to well-established non-profit organizations. Spark has been active in pro bono matchmaking since 2005 (and was re-branded in 2010). Spark makes approximately 50 matches per year, leveraging more than $200,000 in timely and valuable pro bono services for the sector. Spark’s three staff members are Geoff Ripat, Program Manager, Lindsey McBain and Gen Dack, Recruitment Coordinators.
