Global Pro Bono Europe organizes the first Summit in Paris!18/08/2016
From October 12th to 14th, European members of the Global Pro Bono Network met in Paris for the first European Pro Bono Summit. The European summit offered inspirational sessions and workshops that discussed the role of civil society in public action and the future of pro bono service in Europe and beyond!
People and organizations from the civil society have become key partners for public institutions in co-creating the greater good. Pro bono intermediaries strengthen civil society organizations, connect and mobilize individuals to solve the most pressing societal challenges. The European Summit took place in Paris on October 12, 13 and 14. European pro bono intermediaries were joined by the members of the Global Network Advisory Council, corporate and government representatives, as well as key players in the community service sector.
On October 12, at Maison de l’Europe, in the heart of Paris, the Summit opened with a panel discussion featuring inspiring speakers, including Joerg Bauer, President of General Electric Hungary, Alberto Alemanno, Founder of the Good Lobby, and Flore Berlingen, OuiShare Co-founder and Executive Director of Zero Waste France. Participants were also able to attend a “speed dating” session, learning more about European pro bono intermediaries. In the afternoon, participants visited French organizations promoting pro bono, including Passerelles & Compétences, Webassoc and Planète Urgence, and the day ended with a cocktail party.
On October 13, at Accenture’s Happen Space, participants worked with European pro bono intermediaries in their effort to structure their network. In the morning, “pro bono sprints” focused on issues specific to the European pro bono community, followed by best practices workshops facilitated by pro bono intermediaries. At the end of the day, a “bar camp” enabled participants to discuss pressing topics they deem important for the pro bono movement. The day ended with a cocktail party to thank participants and celebrate pro bono.
On October 14, European members only worked on the strategy of the European group for a day, and celebrated the Global network and pro bono.
